| Tasting Note : |
| Complex aromas of cassis, cedar, and mint. The black cherry on the palate is expressive of mountain fruit, while finished tannins provide an underlying structure which will continue to evolve with proper cellaring. |
Hess Collection - USA PRODUCER OF THE YEAR, IWSC 2007
Donald Hess founded the Hess Collection Winery on the slopes of Mount Veeder in the Southern Napa over 25 years ago. Today the impressive modern cellar delivers exceptional quality wines sourced from the Napa Valley and the Mount Veeder region. Set in a stunning landscape looking out over the Mayacama mountain range, the winery also boasts an impressive collection of Mr. Hess’ private collection of art which can be viewed in the gallery at the winery.
Winemaker Dave Guffy, at the helm since 1999, believes in ‘making wine in the vineyard’. A lot of Dave’s attention is focused on growing the flavours and characteristics which he then works with in the winery, sculpting the wines into ‘ripe, fruit forward Californian styles with power and elegance’.
In June 2008 the County of Napa Department of Environmental Management certified the Hess Collection Winery as a San Francisco Bay Area Green Business. They are only the fourth winery in the Napa Valley to achieve this distinction and had to pass rigorous inspections in terms of pollution prevention, conservation and environmental compliance to do so. Being mindful of their impact on the environment has been part of the Hess culture for many years, but to receive this recognition is very gratifying.
