Ageing Potential :
Drinks on release and for the next 8 - 10 years.
Food Matching Note :
Vegetable soups, Games, roast beef and matured cheeses all partner this wine.
Sicilian cookery: Roast lamb, beef and potato stew, rabbit in red wine, boiled beef, stuffed meat roll.
Sicilian cheese: Maiorchino
Tasting Note :
Immediate bilberry notes followed by floral bouquet, vanilla and toasty finish on the nose. The palate shows a lovely texture and velvety richness in the mouth, it is well supported by acidity and creamy, elegant tannins. Very persistent with a fresh and pleasant length.
Detailed Tasting Note :
Colour:
Intense red with a strong ruby hue.
Nose:
Complex mineral notes of graphite and flint alongside red berries, plums, bilberry and mulberry highlighted with hints of balsam, musk, laurel and leather.
Palate:
Elegantly refined, spicey and lingering with a touch of mint. The lively tannins balance the ripe fruits and a sheen of cleansing acidity wraps everything up in a satisfyingly textured and lengthy finish.
'Funky' Tasting Note :
This spicey, mulberry Merlot opts for complexity and character over broad shouldered concentration making it an ideal food partner.
Vinification Note :
Harvested at the end of August, the grapes were destemmed and crushed before spending 14 days macerating on the skins in stainless steel fermenters. After racking, the wine was aged for 12 months in Allier oak barrels.
